Daisy's pregnancy haircut

I took Daisy to the groomers yesterday to get her haircut.  I've found it's best to go super short about three weeks before delivery.  There are a few reasons for this.  First whelping is a messy messy messy event.  The first litter Daisy had long hair and was a mess afterwards.  Of course she won't let me take her away from the puppies long enough for a bath for at least 5 days.  It was a long smelly 5 days!  So now I shave her down, it makes it easy for the puppies to get to her teats as well.  Then I can just use a large wet wipe to clean her up after the whelping is completed.  It's also easier to visualize the puppy coming out of the birth canal if there is not a lot of hair in the way.

I'm not too good at palpating the puppies at the 4 week mark but I'm getting better.  I definitely felt a few puppies on each side so she will have at least 4 puppies.  Since they are coming around Valentines day I've been playing around with a few famous couples names to use for the puppies.  I'm definitely going to use Romeo and Juliet, maybe Sonny and Cher too.  I'd love help from my readers, so please let me know of any cute couple names that come to mind!

New litter should be here by Valentines day :)

Daisy finally has gone into heat. I'm gong to breed her again with Dewey who is the stud I used for her last litter. This is a pic of Montana that I kept from that litter. She's so tiny weighing in at 4lbs but has a huge personality! I can't wait to see what the new litter looks like!

Mini Australian Shepherds

Shorkie haircut ... Montana's new do!

Montana and Daisy went to Petco to get their grooming done. The grooming went really well but I was quite upset about the bill. Petco is now nickle and diming you in the groom department. If you use them as a groomer make sure you find out up front what they are going to charge you for. I was charged $18 each for dematting (they weren't that matted!) and an additional $12 for brush outs! If you can make that much money brushing out a dog I might have to pick up a part time job. I'll be looking for a new groomer because spending $76 for a haircut is pure insanity to me.

The last one to go.... Brooks

Brooks is going to his new home this week, it will be interesting to see how Montana gets along without a playmate. I am working on potty training outside so I can put the potty papers away. The stairs on the deck are still a bit icy and scary so we've been going in the front yard. Today was a beautiful day so we stayed outside and played in the sun for a bit. Brooks and Montana love exploring and finding sticks to chew on. They especially love chasing each other and seeing how close they can get to the road before I make them come back!
